Tom Sachs “FURNITURE” at Salon 94
What’s happening: Tom Sachs is taking over all floors of Salon 94’s towering Upper East Side space with a survey spanning furniture, lighting, ceramics, sculpture, and painting. The exhibition traces nearly four decades of work, from Sachs's early exposure to scavenged-material furniture making at London's Architectural Association through new pieces created specifically for the presentation, including seating, lamps, and ceramics.
Why go: Sachs move effortlessly between art and design. Visitors will encounter new editions of his plywood Shop Chair, developed through a lineage that stretches from Frank Gehry to Charles Eames and Ray Eames, alongside the new Odyssey seating series, walnut tables inspired by Pierre Jeanneret, and sculptural lamps assembled from unexpected components including Japanese tea bowls and Hello Kitty details.
The gallery is also presenting work by Satan Ceramics, the long-running collective that includes Sachs, photographer Mary Frey, painter Pat McCarthy, and other collaborators. The exhibition offers a chance to see the full range of Sachs's thinking in one place, from functional furniture to pure objects.
What’s involved: Design exhibition.

Noglu and Nili Lotan Bring a Gluten-Free Cafe to Tribeca

Why go: Noglu is serving its signature gluten-free pastries alongside a pastry created specifically for Nili Lotan, while shoppers can browse the designer's latest denim collection inside the classic Tribeca space. At the same time, Laird Mackintosh of Thoroughbred is installing a curated selection of rare vintage menswear and womenswear focused on Americana and heritage workwear. Between the coffee counter, racks of vintage finds, and Nili Lotan's minimalist interiors, the space is a destination personified by Nili herself.

Camp Magic Hour at Magic Hour Rooftop
What’s happening: Magic Hour Rooftop at the MOXY Times Square is transforming its West Terrace into Camp Magic Hour, a summer-long installation that swaps Times Square's neon energy for a playful take on the American summer camp. Perched atop the hotel with direct views of the Empire State Building, the seasonal makeover includes a carousel converted into a lifeguard stand, oversized Adirondack chairs, a camp memorabilia wall filled with vintage patches and pennants, and fire pit seating arranged beneath string lights.
Why go: Magic Hour has built a reputation around theatrical seasonal transformations, and this may be its most lighthearted yet. The camp theme extends well beyond the décor with a menu that includes wagyu Sloppy Joes, caviar-topped hot dogs, tableside s'mores, and fried PB&J desserts, while cocktails arrive with names like The Happy Camper, Camp Crush, and Bug Juice Party Pouches. Between the skyline views, nostalgic design touches, and over-the-top food and drinks, summer camp is just upstairs.

New York Design Sale Preview at Phillips
What’s happening: The celebrated New York Design sale returns to Phillips, bringing museum-quality furniture, ceramics, lighting, and decorative objects ahead of a live auction. This year's sale draws heavily from several notable private collections, including those of Agnete Laursen, Anna de Carmel, Inger-Marie Tanier, and Tina Hills, creating an unusually focused survey of 20th-century design across Danish Modernism, British studio pottery, American craft, and postwar French design.
Why go: Even if you're not bidding, auction previews are one of the best free design exhibitions in New York. Highlights include a rare wall-mounted cabinet by Finn Juhl that was previously known only through archival photographs, his celebrated "Chieftain" chair, a monumental single-arm George Nakashima Conoid bench, a rediscovered floor lamp by Paavo Tynell, and an extraordinary candelabrum by Michele Oka Doner.
Elsewhere, visitors can see studio pottery by Hans Coper and Lucie Rie, sculptural glass by Dale Chihuly, sound sculptures by Harry Bertoia, an important work by Jean Prouvé, and a fascinating desk by design duo Elizabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti.

vildwerk. Presents Dancing for the Wild at Bryant Park
What’s happening: Bryant Park, Midtown’s mellow backyard, is continuing its legendary Picnic Performances series with Dancing for the Wild, an evening of contemporary dance presented by the interdisciplinary collective and arts champion vildwerk. Curated by Tiffany Rea-Fisher, Dancing for the Wild brings together a series of commissioned and existing works exploring wildlife, ecology, water systems, migration, and humanity’s relationship with the natural world.
Why go: This event is ambitious. The program includes six separate works, among them Intersections of Life by Ingrid Silva, a ballet inspired by the way human lives intersect and influence one another, set to an original score by Brazilian composer Leandro Albuquerque. Other pieces examine monarch butterfly migration, environmental change, bird life, water, and ecological interconnectedness through contemporary ballet and movement.
Watching dance unfold on the Bryant Park lawn as office towers rise around the performance creates a distinctly New York juxtaposition, one that feels especially fitting for a program centered on the relationship between urban life and the natural world.
What’s involved: Contemporary dance performance.
Friday, June 5, 2026 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Bryant Park, New York, NY 10018. Free admission. No tickets required. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and picnic supplies. Information here.

This year's event is hosted by Angela Yee and honors journalist Sunny Hostin, basketball coach and former NBA player Rod Strickland, and New York Islanders co-owner Jon Ledecky.

Guests begin with cocktails beneath the Brooklyn Museum's soaring Beaux-Arts spaces before moving into a seated dinner and awards presentation honoring Sunny Hostin of The View, Long Island University head coach Rod Strickland, and Islanders executive Jon Ledecky. World Monuments Fund’s Annual Summer Soirée
What’s happening: World Monuments Fund is hosting its annual Summer Soirée at Rockfeller Center’s Rainbow Room, bringing together preservationists, architects, designers, philanthropists, and cultural leaders for an evening celebrating the protection of historic places around the world. This year's edition focuses on the legacy of modernist architecture and design, while honoring Liz Waytkus, Executive Director of Docomomo US and recipient of the 2026 Watch Award.
Why go: World Monuments Fund is unique in its reach and influence. Over the decades, the nonprofit has helped support preservation efforts at sites ranging from Machu Picchu and Angkor to modern architectural landmarks facing demolition or neglect like in Syria and Jordan. This year's focus on modernism arrives at a moment when many postwar buildings are reaching an age where preservation becomes increasingly urgent.
Beyond the cause itself, the evening will feature cocktails, skyline views from the Rainbow Room's iconic perch above Rockefeller Center, music from DJ Claudius Raphael, and bites curated by Master Chef Jacques Sorci. The crowd typically draws an interesting mix of architecture enthusiasts, design professionals, cultural patrons, and New Yorkers with a passion for the built environment.

Inaugural New York City Edition of Work in Progress Art Fair
What's happening: Following its debut in Mexico City earlier this year, Work in Progress arrives in New York as an unconventional art fair organized by Novo Collective. Rather than presenting completed works inside traditional booths, the fair invited 50 artists to spend its duration actively making new pieces on-site. The event takes over four floors of THE BLANC, a Midtown arts venue and former commercial building. Lead sponsor IKEA is supporting the set design and donate furniture that will be modified by multiple artists in on-going installations.
Why go: The appeal is watching the work happen rather than seeing the result after the fact. Performance artist Ventiko is building a large-scale nude tableau with audience participation, designer Ifeoma Ebo is coordinating a collective quilted map of Manhattan inspired by West African indigo traditions, and Adelle Yingxi Lin is allowing visitors to determine her haircut by paying to cut braids attached to floating balloons. Richard Boehnke places clay sculptures inside an aquarium where they gradually deteriorate through audience interaction, while Deborah Morris breaks fired ceramics only to embroider them back together using Depression-era repair techniques. Additional activations include Play Me Techno, an art rave organized with Verbal Animal, plus performance evenings curated by IMPULSE Magazine at both THE BLANC and Beverly's.
What's involved: Open artist studios, live art-making, performances, and a live auction.
Friday, June 19, 2026 through Sunday, June 21, 2026, open daily 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM daily, with an opening preview on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at THE BLANC, 15 East 40th Street, New York, NY 10016. Information and tickets here.
Midsummer Festival presented by The Consulate General of Sweden
What’s happening: The Consulate General of Sweden is bringing one of Scandinavia’s most beloved traditions back to Manhattan with the 28th annual NYC Swedish Midsummer Festival. Held in Rockefeller Park along the Hudson River, the afternoon recreates the atmosphere of a classic Swedish Midsummer celebration, complete with a flower-covered maypole, folk music, dancing, food, and family-friendly activities. The event is presented in partnership with Battery Park City Authority and has become one of New York's longest-running international cultural festivals.
Why go: This is a chance to experience Midsummer as it is actually celebrated in Sweden. Guests can make traditional flower crowns with members of Swedish Women’s Educational Association (SWEA) New York before joining communal dances around the maypole led by Scandinavian folklorist Ross Sutter. Elsewhere, fiddlers from the American Swedish Institute perform alongside nationally-recognized musician Paul Dahlin, while Swedish vendors sell home goods, stationery, kitchenware, and specialty products. Families can catch performances from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre and NYC Parks' PuppetMobile, while FIFA's Mobile Tour arrives with activations tied to the 2026 World Cup. The evening concludes with a sunset DJ set from Isac Cederborg. Arrive early if you want one of the limited-edition tote bags, with the first 1,000 attendees receiving one.
What’s involved: Flower crown making, folk dancing, live music, Swedish food, shopping, puppet shows, family activities.
Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Rockefeller Park, Battery Park City, New York, NY. Rain or shine. Free admission. Information here.
