Created in the late 2000s, the Paper Plane went from being an obscure treat to a cocktail bar staple. In fact, I have a friend who will only order the Paper Plane cocktail if we’re out for a drink. An Over-the-Top Bloody Mary Recipe
Captain Claudio’s Bloody Mary at Claudio’s Waterfront, Greenport, NY. Image: via Claudio’s Waterfront.
While it’s technically only found at Claudio’s Waterfront in Greenport, NY, this extraordinary cocktail was too creative to pass up and the team was generous enough to share the recipe with us. Photogenic and generous in size, the cocktail serves 2-4, and with its indulgent seafood spread piled right on top, it’s basically brunch.
Ingredients (Serves 2-4):
8 oz Belvedere vodka (750mL from $29.99 at Total Wine & More)
24 oz Bloody Mary Mix (32 fl oz/946mL from $7.99 at HyVee)
1.5 lb cooked whole lobster
6 cooked shrimp
4 strips cooked bacon
Green olives
3 celery stalks
1–2 grilled jalapeños
Ice
Optional:
Lemon wedges
Celery salt for rim
Method:
Use a large 35 oz glass or pitcher. Rim it with lemon and dip into celery salt, if desired.
Fill the glass about halfway with ice.
Pour in the vodka and Bloody Mary mix. Stir well.
Place the whole lobster on top or secure it with skewers. Skewers must be inserted through the bottom of the lobster to secure it to the pitcher, then laid across the top with the skewers anchored inside the pitcher. Add the shrimp around the rim or onto long skewers.
Add bacon, olives, celery stalks, and grilled jalapeños onto long skewers.
Add lemon wedges in lobster claws if using, snap a photo, and serve with straws, forks, and napkins.
The champagne in question is a story of superlatives; composed of 195 different base wines from 12 different vintages, the oldest being 1998. Now it’s celebrating this composition with the very limited Krug Studio experience in four global cities.
