Legendary Champagne maker Maison Krug has introduced the next chapter in its Krug x Music journey through a collaboration with British composer Max Richter. The partnership brings a new layer to the Maison’s study of how musical structure can illuminate the character of a champagne, with the dramatic 2008 harvest placed at the center of the narrative.

The Creative Exchange of Krug x Music

Richter is known for compositions that move between classical and electronic forms and has created influential works across film, television and fashion. For this project, he created three original pieces in dialogue with three cuvées shaped by Cellar Master Julie Cavil. Each one corresponds to a different expression from a unique Champagne series known as Krug from Soloist to Orchestra in 2008, also known as Act 2.

The three musical works align with the individual spirits of the Vintage:

  • “Clarity” interprets the purity of Clos d’Ambonnay 2008, only found small 0.68 hectare plot in the village of Ambonnay.

  • “Ensemble” reflects the remarkable overall balance of the 2008 season.

  • “Sinfonia” draws from a library of 127 wines across eleven years and represents the most expansive expression, a signature of Krug’s craft.

For the record, this isn’t the first time Krug has explored the world of music. Since at least 2015, Krug has explored all aspects of sound, from science to output.

From the archive

Krug x Music have included globe-trotting collaborations with artists such as Ozark Henry and neuroscientists at Oxford, as well as listening evenins, linking Krug’s signature cuvées with experiments that examine how sound can deepen the experience of champagne.

What to Expect

Along with the three compositions and the wines themselves, the collaboration will include a short film that traces the project from vineyard to studio and documents the creative process behind the work. The films and full musical pieces will be revealed in February 2026.
